Dementia Care in San Diego

dementia care in san diego

We are seeing an increase in dementia. An estimated 47.5 million people suffer from it worldwide, with 7.7 million new cases diagnosed every year. In San Diego County, nearly 60,000 people have some form of dementia.

While Alzheimer’s is the most well-known form of this life changing disease, it is not the only one. There are several types of dementia, all of them impairing functioning and lessening quality of life.

If your loved one suffers from dementia, you know how hard the daily struggles can be. Some forms of dementia, like Alzheimer’s, are degenerative and rob the sufferer of their memories and cognitive function. As a person with dementia becomes increasingly confused, it may become difficult to perform basic tasks like getting dressed, eating, or bathing. And eventually medical care may be required.

It can become difficult or impossible for a family member to care for a loved one with dementia. It is a full-time job which requires not only certain expertise and skills, but lots of time and patience.

San Diego Dementia Care Center

Elder Answers Can Help You Find The Right Dementia Care Center In San Diego

If your loved one has been diagnosed with dementia and can no longer live independently, a dementia care center in San Diego may be the answer. Also known as “memory care”, these are specialized communities that can keep your loved one safe, assist with daily personal needs, and provide life enhancing programs.

A San Diego memory care facility may be more expensive than an assisted living community, but less expensive and more appropriate than a nursing home.

Which Dementia Care Facility Is Right For Your Loved One?

Full Dementia Care Facility:
These are communities specifically structured for memory care. They do not double as general assisted living communities. All residents have dementia, including Alzheimer’s, or a related memory disorder.
Dementia Care with Assisted Living:
These are assisted living communities in San Diego that also have special memory care. This may be a good choice for a senior who is still in the early stages of dementia, or an elder who suffers from other memory problems. If necessary, your loved one can transition from the assisted living portion of the community to the memory care area.
Board and Care Home:
Board and care homes are smaller facilities that care for only a handful of residents. If your elder is not prone to wandering and would feel more at home in a smaller setting, this may be a good option. Not all board and care homes can care for seniors with dementia, but most provide this service.

Elder Answers can help you figure out which type of dementia care center is best for your loved one’s needs.

Client Testimonials

I came across Lise after dealing with several other senior consultants, all of whom were either located out of town or not at all in tune with what I was looking for.

Lise was a “breath of fresh air”, taking the time and patience to learn about my parents and their needs.

She saved me LITERALLY hours upon hours of time and effort by providing me referrals to senior homes that met my criteria.

To say that she knows the San Diego senior market and is very well connected thereto would be an understatement!

At all times, her ONLY concern was getting my parents located in a place that was best for them, and for our family!

I recommend Lise without reservation. You may contact me for a reference/further information about my experience at any time.

Lisa found my mother in law a palace to live in for her final days. Give us tons of information and basically took us through the whole process all without charging a dime. She seems to know everything about everyone of the homes in this area and answered all of our questions at least twice (sorry about that part Lisa 🙂 Some of them on a Sunday afternoon (sorry about that too Lisa)

The place told us they were giving us a discount because they really like her (Lisa that is) which is awesome. Thank you so much for helping my dying relative find such a perfect place to spend what little time she has left.

There is no one better than Lise when it comes to placing a loved one. I have not seen anyone work harder and never give up on the more difficult cases. Being in Senior Care myself you learn quickly who you can trust, and I trust Lise more than any other Senior Care adviser out there!
